Important note
Please apply the Masalo® cuff in a clean and dry environment and be sure to handle the product with care. We cannot refund the full purchase price if the bandage shows signs of use (stains, damage, etc.).
Measurement of the forearm circumference and size selection
Please note that you can only achieve pain relief with the correct size of Masalo cuff.
Therefore, please measure the exact circumference of the thickest part of the affected forearm again (measure in a relaxed state with the arm slightly stretched)
Compare the measurement you have taken with our size chart.
Both sizes fit between 25.5cm and 28.5cm, please choose size 1 for a forearm circumference of 27cm or less and size 2 for a circumference of more than 27cm.
Applying the cuff
Take the cuff and open the two Velcro fasteners.
If possible, do not pull the straps out of the plastic eyelets, but they can easily be fed back through the eyelets.
Then slip the cuff over your hand.
Slide the cuff to approximately the middle of the forearm and close the Velcro fastener so that the forearm cuff fits snugly on the arm.
Also make sure that the small dot on the
cuff is approximately in the middle of the bend of the elbow.
Caution: The forearm cuff should sit in the middle between the hand and elbow and must not be placed too close to the crook of the elbow.
Please make sure there is enough space!
As soon as you have reached the correct position of the support, slide the upper arm strap over your elbow and bend your arm.
Now adjust the upper arm strap in this position so that it fits snugly against the upper arm when the arm is bent.
If you now move your arm into extension, you will feel the countertraction. Depending on how you vary the settings, the relief will be more or less noticeable.
It should only be possible to stretch the arm with force.
Correctly applied cuff
When the arm is extended, you will see a bulge between the forearm cuff and the elbow. This shows you that this area is relieved with the tendons and the cuff is functioning correctly.
You are welcome to use our "right/wrong" pictures for comparison (next chapter on this page).
Vary the settings until you have reached the optimum position and relief for you. You can adjust the settings at any time to suit the situation (e.g. for activities with a bent arm, such as working at a computer, tighten the settings slightly, for other activities loosen them slightly as required, please also refer to our tips in the following sections.
It is recommended that the Masalo® Cuff MED be worn permanently for the first 14 days and as regularly as possible until the injury has healed, as well as when straining the arm.
Important note:
The arm must not be immobilized with the cuff in place and must not remain in a resting position; the arm must remain fully mobile and usable and must be moved as normally and as much as possible. Only when the arm is stretched/loaded should a countertraction/resistance be felt.
If you have any problems putting on or wearing the Masalo® Cuff MED, please ask your specialist dealer for advice or contact us at: shop@masalo.ch
Cuff applied, what now?
You must now immediately - within a maximum of 15-30 minutes - feel significant relief, otherwise something is wrong.
If the pressure is not relieved, readjust the support or take it off and contact us.
Please do not use the support if you are not sure that you want to keep it. We cannot provide a full refund if the support is used for a longer period of time or shows signs of wear.
Important: The Masalo® sleeve is a very effective support against epicondylitis and develops strong forces. Please only use the support if you have received a well-founded diagnosis of epicondylitis from your doctor.
You can also check the function of the Masalo® cuff yourself with a small test by clicking on the "Function test" button below.
You are also welcome to use our "right/wrong" pictures for comparison (next chapter on this page).
If our cuff helps you, we would be delighted to receive a short experience report from you or a recommendation to fellow sufferers, via FacebookInternet forum etc.
Wearing time
Epicondylitis can take quite a long time to heal completely. Therefore, a wearing period of 4 weeks to 6 months is normal.
The more consistently you wear the support (preferably day and night), the better it supports the healing process.
For this reason, we recommend purchasing a second cuff for changing (after work, sport, washing, etc.), so that you are protected in the best possible way at all times.
Application aid & right/wrong pictures
Important note
The arm must not be immobilized with the cuff on, the arm must remain fully mobile and usable, only when the arm is stretched should a countertraction/resistance be felt.
For "intentional" strain such as work and sports, or when working with the arm bent (e.g. at the PC), it makes sense to adjust the upper arm strap a little tighter, at night and in everyday life it can be loosened.
Correctly applied cuff
Please note that you can only achieve pain relief with the correct size and correctly fitted cuff.
Check the fit of the cuff with the help of our correct/incorrect photos and use the case examples and solutions described.
If you have any questions or problems, please use our contact form.
Case study I
Problem:
Forearm cuff too close to the elbow (arm can be stretched without exerting force, upper arm strap may slip)
Solution:
Place the forearm cuff in the middle of the forearm (halfway between the hand and elbow) and close it so that the forearm cuff cannot slide any further upwards.
When the arm is stretched, you will see a bulge between the elbow and the forearm cuff - the area of the injured tendons is relieved.
Case study II
Problem:
Upper arm strap adjusted too loosely, cuff does not work and slips, arm can be stretched without resistance
Solution:
Bend the arm and close the upper arm strap so tightly that the rubber does not protrude too much in this position, the cuff lies snugly against the skin and the arm can only be stretched with force and a bulge is visible between the forearm cuff and elbow.
Case study III
Problem:
The upper arm strap is fastened too far towards the shoulders, which immobilizes the arm or the strap slips during repeated movement.
Solution:
The upper arm strap should sit just above the elbow bone and must not be pulled up too far. As a small guideline, the cuff should reach approximately a 90 degree angle when the arm is also bent approximately 90 degrees.
Case study IV
Problem:
The cuff is adjusted too tightly, the arm cannot be stretched any more and the blood circulation may be disturbed, the arm remains in a resting position.
Solution:
Tight settings are useful for acute pain and heavy, intentional exertion such as work or weight training, but these settings must be changed after the activity has ended. The arm should always be able to be stretched with effort, the blood circulation must not be permanently compromised.

Tips & tricks for the cuff
General information
The tighter you adjust the Masalo® sleeve initially and the greater the countertraction, the more the tendon insertions are relieved. A tighter setting and greater relief is particularly advisable at the beginning. Although the arm can also be fully extended with the cuff in place, we recommend avoiding full arm extension, at least for the first few days (2-4 days), as far as your daily routine allows. You will gradually get used to the support, find the optimum settings and be able to use your arm normally again.
The Masalo® cuff is NOT intended to immobilize the arm, but works best when the arm is moved as normally as possible. The arm movements in combination with the cuff permanently move, loosen and stretch, stretch and massage the forearm muscles in the direction of the tendon insertions.
We recommend wearing the cuff day and night during the initial period (1-2 weeks) and wearing it as regularly as possible until the injury has healed and when the arm is under strain.
Important: The Masalo® sleeve is a very effective support against epicondylitis and develops strong forces. Please only use the support if you have received a well-founded diagnosis of epicondylitis from your doctor.
For more tips on treating tennis elbow and golfer's elbow, please also read our page "Tips for dealing with epicondylitis".
The right "twist"
If you would like more relief or you feel that the cuff is "pressing" on the pain point (tendon attachment), please change the settings according to one or more of the following points until you have found your optimum settings:
- Turn the forearm cuff slightly further towards the outside or inside of the arm
- Change the position of the forearm cuff (further towards the hand or closer to the elbow)
- Adjust the upper arm strap tighter or wider
The silicone Velcro strap
Inside the upper arm strap you will find a small "band" with silicone dots, which is attached to the strap with Velcro.
You can also remove this band, but you should keep it.
This Velcro strap is designed to increase wearing comfort and ensure that the upper arm strap does not slip off the arm, even with slightly looser settings. You can adjust the position of the strap to suit your activity.
Improve wearing comfort
If there is acute tenderness at the tendon insertions, raise the upper arm strap slightly and adjust it a little tighter. You may not be able to fully stretch your arm, but you will achieve a great deal of relief.
This setting should be changed again after 2-4 days.
Alternatively or additionally, you can change the position of the forearm cuff (further towards the hand or closer to the elbow).
Additional note
If the cuff is adjusted very tightly and under extreme strain, the Velcro fasteners may occasionally loosen. This is a desirable effect to ensure continuous blood circulation. Change the settings if necessary.
If you notice any circulatory problems during normal exercise, please readjust the support accordingly.
Care instructions & washing the cuff
Washing the cuff
The Masalo® Cuff MED can be washed by hand at 30°C.
Please use commercially available detergents (without bleach).
In order to maintain the functionality of the Velcro fasteners for a long time and to avoid damage, we recommend closing the fasteners before washing.
When drying, do not expose the product to direct heat (e.g. heating, sunlight, etc.).
Never put the product in a tumble dryer!
